Skyeship, Terrain Expansion for Christmas Day

Thanks to the hard work by our snowmaking and mountain operations team, the Skyeship Gondola and the Skyeship Lodge open for the season on Saturday, Dec. 25. By this weekend, we expect to offer up to 70 trails and 35 miles of skiing and riding terrain, including Great Eastern Trail.

With a return to winter temperatures this week, our mountain operations team continues with round-the-clock snowmaking as we complete resurfacing and continue expansion plans toward the Skye Peak and Bear Mountain areas.

Looking at the forecast, we’ll see a taste of spring conditions this weekend with sunshine and temperatures reaching into the upper 40s and low 50s. With the great weather on tap, we’re expecting a pretty busy weekend here at the Beast! If you’re planning on making turns this weekend, here are a few things to consider.

Chicken fingers, pizza, burgers and fries will always remain the mainstay food items at not only Killington, but pretty much every resort across the country. But this year, we’re taking another step toward offering you healthy, delicious culinary options. Bottom line is, you want more than standard base lodge fare, and we’re listening.

In the coming weeks, we will be constructing the Peak Walkway from the top of the North Ridge Triple to the top of the K-1 Gondola to provide both summer sightseeing access and early-season winter access to upper mountain ski/ride terrain.

The Winter Dew Tour today announced that Vermont’s Killington Resort will host the second of three stops for the Tour’s third season, January 20-23, 2011. The four-day event will feature a 22-foot superpipe while showcasing the top winter athletes from around the world competing in freeskiing (slopestyle and superpipe) and snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe).

The Killington Music Festival opened its 28th season, as it usually does, with a program of American music. But not only did Saturday’s concert at Killington Resort’s Ramshead Lodge showcase the summer chamber music school’s faculty in some musical gems, it proved its mettle as a school for tomorrow’s performing artists.

Jay “Rosey” Rosenbaum and Corey Tredtin don’t mind working long hours during the winter creating, building, maintaining and riding the best terrain parks in the Northeast. In fact, they love their jobs and the rewards that go along with it.

For the fifth consecutive year, we’re are teaming up with the United Way to offer a free day of activities at the Pico Mountain Adventure Center and Killington Resort with a suggested $10 donation to the United Way of Rutland County.
